Wakeboarding with Dustin

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Yesterday afternoon Dustin came into the studio for his senior photos. I love shooting kids who have a cool hobby that we can incorporate into the pictures. Dustin is really into wakeboarding so we wanted to include that somehow. At first, the idea was to go out on the boat and shoot some action stuff, then we though maybe we’d just shoot portraits on the boat. But in the end, it was decided to leave the boat home and just shoot some stuff near the water. The river is just a few blocks from the studio and the rocks on the shoreline made a great backdrop as well. Since we are in Portland, we had some nice clouds of course. Here are a few other photos from his shoot, the others were photographed at my Milwaukie studio. I had a great time shooting these photos. Let me know what you think. Thanks for coming in Dustin!

Running

I wanted to shoot some interesting running photos for my portfolio. So yesterday I headed off to the Nike Employee Store and loaded up on running gear. My awesome make-up artist friend Nicole Wagner is an avid runner and brought a couple of her running partners to the shoot too. I define my style as “real and dramatic” and wanted to set that tone by using real runners as my models. Here are some of my favorite photos. Let me know what you think!

We shot them outside of the Hillsboro library. There is a really cool tunnel that goes under the main road that made for a great background. Towards the end of the shoot the sun came through the trees and looked awesome. So we packed the lights away and just shot available light. Funny how that works sometimes, the simplest light is oftentimes the best light.

Will You Marry Me?

Friday, July 29th, 2011

I have shot close to 400 weddings in my career, but never before have I shot an actual proposal. So when Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe called me up and asked me to be part of his elaborate plan to propose to his long time girlfriend Felicia, I was excited. And an elaborate plan it was! With the help of teammate Freddie Braun, he found the perfect location up at Council Crest. They setup a ton of flowers and had planned it all out to be just perfect. Freddie and I hid behind some trees in the park while Darlington brought her up. It was nerve racking sitting back there knowing what was about to go down and waiting for the big moment! Brought back memories of when I proposed to Jenn over a decade ago! I can only imagine how nervous he was!

She had no idea and was totally surprised. Then Freddie and I came out of hiding while she was still in shock and she began to realize this trip to Council Crest – D told her it was for a team BBQ – was just for her. Pretty cool. Congrats guys!

Monday I shot a promo for the Broadway Rose’s next show “Ripper”. Herea couple versions of the show poster they made out of the photos. The show is making it’s world premiere with the Broadway Rose. Should be a good one. Check it out Aug 3-21 in Tigard. Here is a behind the scenes photo if your interested.

Portland Timbers vs Seattle Sounders

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

Sunday was the day most Timbers fans had been waiting for. The hated team from the north was coming to JELD-WEN Field. The atmosphere at Timbers games is always amazing, but it was even better on Sunday. I am always joking around with the guys on the team that they should run to me after scoring a goal so I can get good photos. Of course they have no idea where I am at and no time to look for me, and could probably care less about helping me make a good photo (though they all do like my photos). However on Sunday after scoring the first goal of the game to go up 1-0 in the second half, Kalif Alhassan ran right to where I was sitting, literally about 5 inches from my camera, to celebrate. I couldn’t believe it! Then as I am shooting them, Rodney Wallace comes flying over and leaps up on Kalif and starts yelling at the Timbers Army and it made a great photo. So thanks Kalif and Rodney! You can see the rest of my images from the day on the team Facebook page. Unfortunately, the lead did not lost long and the Timbers lost 3-2.
