Clip: Hanyer Mosquera – Portland Timbers

Here is a photo I shot last week of Timbers defender Hanyer Mosquera. It was used on the cover of the team magazine/matchday program for May games for a feature story about him. I like how it turned out. I’ll try to get digital copies of the cover and inside spread and update this post as they look pretty cool. UPDATE: Here is how the cover and inside spread was published. I really like them:

This photo shoot was made little tougher by the fact that Hanyer’s english is still in the beginning stages since coming up from Columbia in February and we didn’t have a translator on hand on the shoot. So it was a mixture of the little English he knows, the very little Spanish team PR guy Chris Metz and I know (via the help of an iPhone app) and a lot of pantomime. Probably entertaining to watch, especially once I started spraying him with water, but worked out pretty good.

For the photographers out there, it’s lit with 5 lights: a 20 degree grid on each side, a speed light in the locker, a large soft box on the floor looking up for fill and a speed light with a Honl Traveler 8 with a 1/4 CTO overhead to light his face. I should have shot a setup photo. I am so bad at that sometimes. Sorry.
