Lighting Workshop @ 7000 feet
I am really excited to announce my next big lighting workshop! I have been wanting to do a workshop in the snow for a while now and a few weeks ago when the PMPA approached me about holding a lighting workshop, I thought it would be the perfect fit. It will take place on Wednesday March 31, 2010 at the Silcox Hut at Timberline Lodge. If you are not familiar with the hut, it is above the lodge at the 7000 foot level of Mt. Hood and only accessible via snowcat or skis. A great place to hold a private seminar. (More info after the jump)
Seminar includes lunch and round trip snowcat ride from Timberline Lodge. Pro Photo Supply and Canon will provide equipment for participants to use and we will have snowboard and skier models to shoot portraits and action pictures.
A rough breakdown of the day:
1:30pm – Students and Staff arrive at Timberline Lodge. Short Meet and greet and gather gear. Staff and equipment will go up in 1st snowcat, setup inside the hut, cat will come back and pickup the rest of the students.
2:30pm – Everyone arrives to the Silcox hut (either by snowcat or they can ski in if they are so inclined to do so)
Lunch Served
3:00pm-5:00pm – Overview of lighting techniques, use of modifiers, tricks, big lights, small lights, etc. Will show work and talk about thought process and equipment used to make certain images. Indoor lighting demo with our models. Students will also get to shoot models indoors.
5:30ishpm- Light should be getting good, go outside and shoot dramatic outdoor photos. Students take turns shooting. Shoot action images, lit action images, lit portraits, use gels, etc until after twilight (Sunset is 7:30pm).
8:00pm – Back inside, Students download images, we will talk about workflow, post processing, editing, etc. Critique student work, show slideshow of student images from the day
10:00pm – Portfolio reviews for those who want them.
You can register for the workshop on the PMPA Website. Cost is $200 for students, $250 for members of PMPA, PPO and ASMP and $285 for non members (a PMPA membership is $35 so you can get a membership at the same time for no additional cost!). This workshop is limited to 20 photographers. Hope to see you there!
