Professional Photographers of Oregon Convention/Workshop

I spoke to a group of photographers this morning at the Professional Photographers of Oregon convention. My talk was on, what else, lighting. I had a model come out with me and demoed a shoot from start to finish, using between 2 and 6 lights. Click the jump for more photos and lighting diagrams…

Another version of the same photo above, which is right out of camera, with different post processing in Aperture:

I talked about building a portrait starting with the background and the ballroom I was speaking in at Edgefield had a very cool mural on the wall so I decided to use it. I walked through setting up background, fill and key lights. For the image above, there are two background lights, two rim lights, a softbox as a fill light and a grid on a boom as the main light.

Above is right out of camera, here is one with a little post processing:

After the indoor demo, people were asking about outdoor photos so I decided to take everyone outside real quick and shoot a photo in the beautiful sun we had here in Portland today. And I mean, real quick. We walked outside and shot this image in 3 minutes, setup to done, using two canon 550EX sppedlights. I think everyone liked the presentation and hopefully learned a thing or two. Man I LOVE teaching workshops!
Here are the diagrams for all 3 photos on this post:

Thanks again for all of those who came out today. And thanks for one of the best makeup artists in town, Jennifer Walker for showing up extra early and making Heather look awesome.
