Hey Craig! I really like seeing your video / still mashups! DSLR video is fantastic, but really falls down on the audio side. What are you using to edit? Is there a stabilization plugin like iMovie uses? That would make the handheld shots a bit smoother!

The audio is recorded in different ways, mostly with a wireless mic plugged into the DJ board. it is not the best, that is for sure, I am working on ways to do that better. I edit everything in Final Cut. Camera shake is another issue, sometimes I don’t mind it, but I need a smoother head for the tripod and a steadycam rig.

    Hi Craig,

Now how did I end up commenting on your blog (that should be the first question to answer in what I feel is going to be slightly long message – sorry in advance if you do start going to sleep!)?

O.k…..for your google stats……I got to your blog because it was top of a list of 3 blog entries in an article on wedpix (strangely enough about photography blogs)……I went to wedpix because the day before (that would be yesterday….here in the UK we have no concept of PST nor EST….but strangely enough do have ESPN…another story…btw…it’s bloody miserable weather here….does it ever rain for photographers in the states!?)…….well I went to wedpix to look at good online proofing sites (nothing does what I want except for album exposure…and that only delivers half of what I want)…..at the bottom of the article on online albums was a link to an article on photo blogs…..and I got to wedpix via google…..I do love google….

    So now you know.

So why am I commenting on your blog giving my internet life history for the past day……well I spotted your video for Brad & Hillary…..again it’s always sunny for the US wedding photographer and the couples always look like ex-models…..you are such a lucky fella…..anyway I digress…..in your blog you did ask what we thought…and here goes…

I will be doing these kind of video and photo slideshows, in a few months time, and I have prepped myself with 2 different pieces of software……cyberlink powerdirector and proshow….both very good in their own way…..but then I’ve recently seen animoto pro which will do it all in a click (you know you can keep shovelling money away with all the cool stuff that’s out there)……now I haven’t done one yet but I do have plenty of ideas for when I am required to do such a video/photo thing mid 2010….my main idea (and it’s not really mine….just I’ve seen plenty of video/photo type thingies around)…. is to have video and photos but no major expanse of audio….except music…..I will capture audio of guest messages…when I can…and possibly the “I DO” and anything atmospherically quick to edit in…but let the pictures and video speak…..so in that respect my reservations of the video are thus….

Firstly, too much video……and they need some good editing…I mean like a slideshow of photos…..what about 5 second clips of silent videos….perhaps tweaked (black and white for example)……I love the first dance sequence…which I think should be interjected with photos on top (see pro show if want ideas) of the running video……your pictures are fantastic…lovely weather, great looking couple and a good eye….. :-) ….oh the use of strobes is fantastic on the outside shots…….do you have an assistant?

So I do like it….but ain’t to enamoured with all of the video….just some of it…..the video of the computer screen was a bit naff….honestly it was….a still shot would have been much better….but that’s just me….

which it is…..I appologise if I’ve sort of ripped into your work……but I’m a total stranger to you…and sometimes you just need that criqitique.

Anyway, I think I’ve overstayed my welcome….and that’s a hell of an introduction.

Just drop me a line if you ever need some total random stranger to give you feedback…..or not…as the case may be.

    :-)

Best wishes for your continuing work.

    with regards,

    Anurag.
