Corporate Portrait

This morning I had a job to shoot the CEO of a large company down in Salem. When I arrived on location the first thing I did was look for a location to shoot. After looking at a few areas that could have worked, I walked into the company gym, with modern furniture and big windows all around and a nice earthy blue paint scheme and decided to shoot there. I wanted to shoot at a real low aperture and use the big windows but it was really cloudy outside and the available light just wasn’t giving me what I needed, so I placed a light with a large softbox outside the building and against the window to mimic the natural light. Then added another light with a grid the put a slight rim light on him. There is also a white reflector to bounce a little light back in on the shadow side. (photo left). After shooting a few frames with the coat and tie we had him lose it for something a little more casual. At this point, the sun came out and all I had to do was open a door the let some great natural light in. Funny how sometimes you bring all this gear and spend all this time setting up and in the end, just a simple available light shot turns out to be the best from the shoot.
