Baseball Civil War – Part 1
I spent the weekend photographing the baseball version of the Civil War. Oregon vs. Oregon St at PGE Park. When I woke up on Saturday, I never thought in a million years that a game would actually be played that night. When I got to the ballpark, I was still thinking, no way.
The grounds crew was working hard to get that field playable, even in the pouring rain. The 6pm start time was pushed back to 6:30pm and then again to 7pm.
The folks in the beer garden did not seem to mind the delay at all, and took advantage of the downtime by buying beer. Lots and lots of beer. Finally, the rain stopped around 7pm and never returned. It actually turned into a really nice night for a baseball game. The game was pretty boring for the first 7 innings, but then the Beavs scored twice and it was 2-0 going into the 9th. Then the Beavers fell apart.
A lot of walks and a couple of errors and the Ducks forced the game into extra innings, then won the game with a walk off double in the bottom of the 10th. The Pac-10 record crowd of 15,000+ saw a great game.
