Wedding’s 12/19 and 12/20
I had two wedding’s right in the middle of last week’s “Artic Blast”. Cracks me up how people in Portland freak out and the 24 news coverage, everything shuts down, etc whenever it snows. When I was a kid growing up in Klamath Falls, it snowed feet and feet of snow all the time and we only got out of school like two times in 10 years! One of the wedding’s was taking place at the Mazama Lodge in Government Camp, so I thought it would be a great time to leave town and take my family up to Mt. Hood for the week, enjoy the snow, get some snowboarding in and let Portland implode under the pressure of a couple inches of snow. I came back to the city Friday night for a great little ceremony and dinner at the Armory in the Pearl/Andina, then drove back up to the mountain afterwards. It was starting to snow and I could already tell people were freaking out, glad I got out of town!
The next day, I put my 4 year old daughter into ski school for the first time. She did fantastic, even rode the chairlift and I cannot wait to get her back up on the slopes! Then that night I made the short hike from our condo to the lodge. Well, I thought it would be a short hike, turned out that the lodge is about 1/4 mile off the road and the only access is to hike up a small path cut out of the snow. That was fun carrying all my gear! Anyway, while the city was freaking out, i was with a whole bunch of people that love being in the snow. It was a blast. The temperature dropped down to 6.4 degrees as I hiked back down the hill and back to the condo around 10pm. Brrrr! We stayed up on the mountain for a couple more days and then headed back to town. When I got home there was two feet of snow in my driveway, I couldn’t believe it. i loved the white Christmas and I hope you did too. I miss the snow now that its gone.
